How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? 15 And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, who bring glad tidings of good things!”
ROMANS 10:14-15
In this series, we explore the facets of the one true gospel. Labels like “gospel of peace” (Eph 6:15) and “eternal gospel” (Rev 14:6) provide a comprehensive view. Each label reveals a unique dimension, forming a complete picture, like pieces of a puzzle.
Last time, we uncovered “The Gospel of Grace,” emphasizing that grace IS the gospel, embodied in Jesus. This time together, we dive into “The Gospel of Peace.”
Romans 10:14-15 highlights the role of messengers with “beautiful feet” proclaiming peace. Ministers of the New Covenant bring peace, grace, and reconciliation, not division. Ephesians 6 depicts the armor of God with sandals for proclaiming the “gospel of peace.” Even Peter, addressing Gentiles, calls it “the good news of peace through Jesus Christ.”
Peace, or “shalom,” is more than tranquility. It signifies completeness, health, prosperity, and harmony. The gospel of peace addresses external and internal peace. Our world yearns for peace amid conflict, anxiety, and division. Shalom, a rich Hebrew word, reflects God’s ideal state where all flourishes.
Romans 5:1-2 declares our justification by faith, bringing peace with God. Our standing isn’t based on performance but on faith in Jesus. Reconciliation removes hostility, ensuring a constant state of peace with God.
The gospel breaks barriers, uniting diverse believers. Viewing others through Christ’s love erases judgment. In 2 Corinthians 5:14-16, Paul urges viewing through spiritual lenses. Romans 15:7 emphasizes receiving others as Christ received us—unconditionally.
Inner peace stems from peace with God. Fear disrupts peace; 1 John 4:18 affirms perfect love casting out fear. Recognizing God’s love eliminates fear’s grip. Shalom manifests in a life of flourishing.
Close your eyes, and envision peace in your life—ceasing worry, restful sleep, joy, and confidence. Shalom extends beyond external circumstances, addressing inner turmoil.
Commit to being a peacemaker in all areas. As you’ve received peace, share peace. Acceptance and forgiveness are your guiding principles. Tear down walls of division in a divided world, living peaceably with all (Romans 12:18).
In closing, recall Jesus’ words in John 14:27—His parting gift is peace, not as the world gives. The God of peace deposits endless peace within you. Believe and receive His peace, wave after wave. If you haven’t received this free gift, pray the provided prayer.
Experience the shalom peace of Jesus, a gift beyond measure. Expect to walk in it today!
