The Gospel of the Kingdom: Part 3 of 4

Welcome to part 3 of our 4-part blog series, “The Gospel of.”

In this exploration, we are delving into the various facets of the gospel as presented in the New Testament.

As we unravel these different dimensions, we discover that the gospel is like a multifaceted jigsaw puzzle, and each aspect contributes to the complete picture of God’s plan for us.

So far, we’ve discussed the Gospel of Grace and the Gospel of Peace. Today, we embark on a journey into a lesser-explored yet profound realm: “The Gospel of the Kingdom.”

The Significance of the Kingdom:

Jesus, during His earthly ministry, consistently emphasized the Kingdom of God. This wasn’t merely a peripheral topic for Him; it was central to His teachings. Mark 1:14-15 encapsulates the foundation of His message: “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.”

Now after John was put in prison, Jesus came to Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.”MARK 1:14-15

Understanding the Kingdom:

Jesus’ Message:

  • Jesus proclaimed the good news of the Kingdom.
  • He fulfilled Old Testament prophecies about the Kingdom.

Kingdom ‘At Hand’:

  • The Kingdom was not a distant future concept; it was a present reality initiated by Jesus.
  • Repentance was directed toward the good news of the Kingdom.

Misconceptions about the Kingdom:

In Jesus’ time, many expected a physical kingdom, leading to misunderstandings. Today, similar misconceptions persist:

  • Some see the Kingdom as heaven, entered upon death.
  • Others believe in a delayed Kingdom or a “now but not yet” scenario.
  • Some tie the Kingdom to political ideologies.

Three Powerful Truths about the Kingdom:

#1 • The Kingdom of God is a Present Reality:

  • It is not a future event or a distant place; it is a spiritual reality.
  • Jesus brought the Kingdom to earth, intending for the Church to live in, operate in, and advance it now.

#2 • The Kingdom of God is a Powerful Movement:

  • It advances, overtakes, and reigns.
  • The Kingdom is not stagnant; it grows, conquers, and establishes dominion.

#3 • The Kingdom of God is All About the Prevailing King:

  • The Kingdom is inseparable from the King—Jesus.
  • Understanding the attributes of the King brings assurance, as He is prevailing, benevolent, a provider, a shepherd, humble, faithful, and sovereign.

Conclusion:

As believers, we are not part of a defeated Kingdom. Instead, we are citizens of a present, powerful Kingdom, led by the prevailing King. Let us grasp the reality, power, and authority bestowed upon us by the Gospel of the Kingdom.

In our next and final part, we will explore the concluding piece of this profound puzzle: “The Gospel of great joy.”
